Hotel in Næstved with lots of history

The main building of Hotel Kirstine dates back to the 1700s. It was a timbered farmhouse for Councilman Mathias Hansteen. Mathias Hansteen was a wine merchant and a councilman in the period 1745-1750.The years after he became a postmaster, and the farmhouse were turned into a post office. After the passing of Mathias Hansteen the merchant navy captain Jørgen Mauritzen Samsøe bought the farmhouse for his retirement. He was the father of the Danish poet Ole Johan Samsøe who is rembeberd with a plaque at the façade of Hotel Kirstine.

In the years 1809-1876 the farmhouse was used as resident of the mayors in Næstved, bought by the mayors them self. At the time, the mayors were royally appointed officials who often moved to the city for work. This made it practical for the mayors to buy the farmhouse from their predecessor.

In 1909 the Mayor Farmhouse was transformed into a hotel with the name Missionshotellet. In 1988 the name was changed by the new owners, Vagn Poulsen & Elisabeth Fløjstrup, and the new name was Hotel Kirstine, as it is known today.
